Gaudí Year 2026 in Barcelona — Every Exhibition, Event and Ticket You Need
Barcelona is throwing a year-long tribute to Gaudí. Here's what actually matters for your visit — and what you can skip.
On June 10, 2026, a 172-meter tower gets its inauguration on the exact centenary of Gaudí's death. The Sagrada Família's Tower of Jesus Christ — the tallest church structure in Europe — is complete. The city has built an entire year around the occasion.
What is Gaudí Year 2026, and should you care?
Barcelona declared 2026 "Any Gaudí" — a year of over 1,500 events across 170 institutions. That sounds like marketing noise, but several exhibitions are worth rearranging a trip for.
The exhibitions worth your time
Sagrada Família — Tower of Jesus Christ. The main event. Six central towers are complete, the basilica reaches 172.5 meters, and the inauguration ceremony on June 10 will include a solemn mass presided by Pope Leo XIV — the first papal visit to Barcelona in 15 years. The viewing platform won't open until 2027, but the skyline has already changed. Book Sagrada Família tickets early — demand in 2026 is double the usual.
Casa Batlló — "Beyond the Façade." United Visual Artists built an immersive installation on the second floor exploring divine geometry and Gaudí's spiritual vision through light and darkness. Runs until May 17. Casa Batlló tickets start at €35. The night visit with welcome drink is worth it if you want the building with fewer people and better lighting. Wondering if €35 is justified? See our honest take in is Casa Batlló worth it?.
Palau Güell — "Gaudí: Windows on the Future." A new exhibition focused on the openings in Gaudí's work — original doors, windows, stained glass, models, and drawings. Runs April 21 to October 25. Palau Güell (~€12) is one of the most underrated Gaudí buildings and this exhibition adds a reason to visit.
MNAC — "Gaudí and His Contemporaries." Previously unseen Gaudí pieces joining the permanent collection. Worth combining with a 2-hour MNAC visit — the Romanesque collection alone justifies the trip. Free Saturdays from 3 PM.
Park Güell — Photography Exhibition. "A recer del Park Güell" runs May 14 to December 13 at Plaça de la Natura, showcasing lesser-known details of Gaudí's design. Adult entry is €18 in 2026 (up from €10). See the full breakdown in the Park Güell tickets guide, check what's free without a ticket, or plan around crowds with the best time to visit Park Güell.
Palau Robert — "The Sagrada Família and Barcelona." 144 years of shared history between the basilica and the city. Runs April 27 to July 26 at Palau Robert Gardens (Passeig de Gràcia). Free entry.
Month-by-month calendar
April. Palau Güell "Windows on the Future" opens (April 21). Palau Robert "Sagrada Família and Barcelona" exhibition opens (April 27). Good weather, manageable crowds. Best month for a Gaudí trip if you want events without the June rush.
May. Park Güell photography exhibition opens (May 14). Casa Vicens free on International Museum Day (May 18) and La Nit dels Museus. Casa Batlló "Beyond the Façade" closes May 17 — last chance. Saint Rita Day at Casa Vicens (May 22) with roses blessed in the gardens.
June. The peak month. Tower of Jesus Christ inauguration at Sagrada Família (June 10) with papal mass. UIA World Congress of Architects (June 28 to July 2) at La Pedrera and across the city — 10,000+ participants, 250+ speakers. La Pedrera tickets sell out in June — book ahead. The La Pedrera night experience on the rooftop is particularly good in summer. Expect June to be the busiest month in Barcelona's tourism history.
July–August. UIA Congress wraps up (July 2). Palau Robert exhibition runs until July 26. Summer crowds at all Gaudí buildings. Book Sagrada Família a month ahead.
September. Jordi Savall concerts at Torre Bellesguard. La Mercè festival (September 24) with free museum entry across the city. Palau Güell exhibition continues. Crowds thin after mid-September — the sweet spot for a quieter Gaudí visit.
October–December. Palau Güell exhibition closes October 25. Park Güell photography exhibition runs until December 13. Casa Vicens reopens the Smoker's Room with original 1885 Gaudí polychrome decorations (November). Christmas Concert at Sagrada Família with the Montserrat Choir (December 18). Els Llums de Sant Pau light show at Recinte Modernista (November–January).
Barcelona: World Capital of Architecture 2026
Something most visitors won't know: 2026 is also the year Barcelona holds UNESCO's World Capital of Architecture designation. The city has programmed over 1,500 activities from February to December — 143 exhibitions, 500+ guided routes, 300+ debates, and 140+ workshops. Ten party walls across ten districts are being transformed by young architects through international competition. A new Casa de l'Arquitectura opens as a permanent center for architecture and urbanism.
For visitors, this means more architecture-focused programming at museums, more open-building events, and more guided walking tours than any normal year. Check barcelona.cat/capitalmundialarquitectura for the full programme.
How to plan your Gaudí route in 2026
Start with Park Güell in the morning (fewer crowds before 10am), walk to Casa Vicens (€20, Gaudí's first commission), then Passeig de Gràcia for Casa Batlló and La Pedrera (€25). Save Sagrada Família for a separate morning.
The Gaudí Bundle (Sagrada Família + Park Güell from €65) saves money and skips queues. For a budget approach, Palau Güell (~€12) and Colònia Güell (~€10, 20 min by train) are the most underrated Gaudí sites — the Colònia crypt is a prototype for the Sagrada Família.
If you hold an Articket Barcelona, it covers art museums (Picasso, Miró, MNAC, MACBA) but not the Gaudí buildings. You'll need separate tickets.
For a counterpoint to Gaudí's curves, visit the Palau de la Música — Lluís Domènech i Montaner's contemporary masterpiece that approaches Modernisme through geometry and stained glass rather than organic forms. Both architects revolutionized the same era; they just spoke different languages.
What do most visitors get wrong about Gaudí Year?
Booking too late. Sagrada Família sells out 2–3 weeks ahead in normal years. In 2026, expect a month ahead for June. Tuesday to Thursday mornings are the quietest slots.
Trying to see it all in one day. Five Gaudí buildings is a march, not a visit. Pick two or three.
Skipping the lesser buildings. Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, and Colònia Güell are where you see Gaudí thinking out loud. A fraction of the crowds.
