Sagrada Família Free Admission: The Honest Answer for 2026
Unlike other Barcelona museums, Sagrada Família doesn't offer a free weekly window. Here's what actually exists — and what it will cost you.
Every major museum in Barcelona has a free window. Picasso Museum on Thursday evenings. MNAC on first Sundays. Miró on first Sundays. Sagrada Família does not work this way. If you've been googling "Sagrada Família free entry," here's the honest picture before you plan your day around something that doesn't exist.
What's actually free at Sagrada Família
Sunday mass. Every Sunday at 9:00 AM, the basilica holds an international mass open to everyone. Free, no booking required. Arrive by 8:30 AM at the Nativity façade — capacity is limited and fills up. The mass runs until 10:00 AM and is conducted in multiple languages including Catalan, Spanish, and English.
This is not a tourist visit. You sit in the worship area, you participate in a religious service, and you exit when it ends. No towers, no museum, no wandering between stained glass windows. Photography is not permitted during the service. What you get is genuine: the organ, the light through the glass, the nave as Gaudí designed it. It's worth doing once if that's the kind of experience you're looking for.
Children under 11. Always free, any day, any ticket type — but at least one adult must purchase a paid ticket.
People with disabilities (65%+) and their companions. Free year-round. Bring documentation.
Barcelona residents, 2026 only. Not free, but 50% off. Email resident@ext.sagradafamilia.org with photo ID and residency certificate. Discounted tickets are not available through the standard booking site.
Special free days in 2026
Santa Eulàlia (February). The basilica ran a raffle for 8,500 free tickets with entry on February 14 (3:00–5:30 PM) and February 15 (3:00–6:00 PM). This has already passed for 2026 — note it for 2027.
Sant Jordi (April 23). Historically free for people named Jordi, Jordina, Georges, or Jorgina plus one companion. Check the official site in April — not guaranteed every year.
Other categories always free: Unemployed visitors with documentation, accredited press, members of the clergy, ICOM members, and holders of a Ruta del Modernisme voucher.
What it costs if you're paying
Adult ticket: €26 (includes audioguide). With tower access: €36. Students and under 30: €24. Seniors: €21. Under 11: free. Full breakdown and booking advice in the 2026 tickets guide.

Tips before you visit
If free is non-negotiable: Sunday mass is a genuine option. Go knowing it's a church service, not a museum visit.
If you're paying: book at least a week ahead between April and October. The 9–10 AM quiet hour slot goes first and has the best light. For the best lighting and thinnest crowds, check our guide to the best time to visit Sagrada Família.

Frequently asked questions
Is there free entry to Sagrada Família?
No regular free admission for tourists. Sunday mass (9–10 AM) is free but it's a religious service — you won't explore the basilica. Children under 11 and people with disabilities (65%+) with companions are always free. Barcelona residents get 50% off in 2026.
Can I visit during Sunday mass for free?
Yes, but you sit in the worship area and exit at 10 AM. No photography, no towers, no wandering. Enter via the Nativity façade from 8:30 AM.
Do Barcelona residents get free entry?
No, but 50% off all ticket types throughout 2026. Email resident@ext.sagradafamilia.org with proof of residency.
Are there free days like other Barcelona museums?
No. Picasso Museum has free Thursdays, MNAC has free first Sundays. Sagrada Família has no equivalent. Sunday mass is the only recurring free option.
If free admission is the priority, Barcelona's art museums offer far more options — see our complete guide to free museum days. If Sagrada Família is on your list regardless, €26 is the price. For timing advice, read our best time to visit Sagrada Família guide.
